Every shop has a beginning. Ours started with a passion.
It wasn't just any thimble — a small, worn sterling silver one that belonged to both of my grandmothers. I remember when I was a very young child, barely old enough to see over the edge of the sewing table, watching my grandmothers work with such precision. It wasn't just about the ink pen, pencil, and the eraser — it started with my grandfather scribbling on small scraps of paper, and turning it into a masterpiece from his imagination. Now it is my turn to follow in the footsteps of my Polish grandmother and my Hungarian grandparents.
That thimble and pencil are why Thimbles and Treasures exists.
A new fine art discovery comes in the form of the eye of the viewfinder. The adventure in the dark room, that starts with hope as I rocked the trays of developer. The excitement at the transformative process that captures latent images and brings them to life. That same excitement is what I feel with every textile piece in my art studio — every bag, every accessory, every stitch — are made by hand, with care and intention. I may not be as precise as my grandmothers with the needle or have the realism style of my grandfather, but I carry on the passion and the imagination. I was taught by the old master when I write with light, it is my own story. This is the concept that I follow in my art studio today, I don't believe in mass production. I believe in the mark of the maker: the slight variation in a stitch, the choice of a particular linen, the way a strap is finished so it will last for years and feel better with every use.
When you carry one of my bags, you're carrying the soul of the expressive value, creative vision and the challenge to explore the human experience.
25 years ago, my close friend of today entered into my life, and introduced me to the world of antiques. I smile at the memory of our shared laughter and tears from the result of our many wrong turns that we unintentionally took on road trips to find that one perfect hidden treasure that we could not live without. Now I want to share with you the treasure I hunted for through the years with my friend. Alongside my handcrafted pieces, I am introducing a curated selection of vintage and antique collectibles — ceramics, small objects, and curiosities that have lived a life before they came to us. I hunted for pieces with character: a hand-painted glaze, a maker's mark on the base, a provenance worth knowing.
I believe objects hold memory like the memory of my adventures with my friend. When I find a piece worth rescuing and rehoming, I feel a responsibility to share its story — and to find it a home where it will be appreciated.
I stand in my art studio that is no bigger than a 10x10. I see clutter on the shared art and sewing table, fabrics peeking out of half-closed antique dresser drawers. Cleaning powder from my burning tools dusting the floor and revealing my footprints. Scraps of leather and cork thrown on shelves because I cannot bear to throw them away. Here in this room is my magic place! Here I escape into my imagination to create art that cannot be replicated. Each textile piece is made in small batches or as a single original. Each vintage find is, by nature, unrepeatable. When something is gone, it's gone — and that's exactly the point.
We think there's something meaningful about owning an object that no one else has. Something that was chosen or made specifically, not scrolled past and clicked.
I want to say that I truly appreciate that you've found your way to my art studio. My desire is for you to feel the soft textures of the chosen 100% cotton fabrics, the known smell of cowhide, and the natural quality of cork — my desire is for you to allow yourself to imagine the possibilities and that the things we surround ourselves with matter. That craft is worth supporting. That old things deserve new appreciation.
Welcome to Thimbles and Treasures. I am glad you're here.
